Late 18th century barrel-back wing armchair
Late 18th century barrel-back wing armchair of generous proportions. Silver birch mortise and tenon frame terminating on tapering Honduras mahogany legs, brass caps and castors. Original linen tarps and horsehair stuffed linen upholstery. "The grandfather or so-called tub-chairs of Hepplewhite and his contemporaries, such as fig 177, resembled in height those of previous thirty years, but the backs and sides; the legs are always extremely simple during the later part of the eighteenth century."
